VCE Curriculum Consultancy
Through my consultancy, Between the Lines, I draw upon my knowledge as a curriculum expert in VCE Theatre Studies and Drama to guide arts organisations in strategic planning for meaningful education engagement, whether through education-specific programming workshops with presenters and producers, or long-term consultancy with arts organisations seeking to build sustained relationships within the education sector. My extensive prior experience with the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority has included assessing both VCE Drama and Theatre Playlist written and performance examinations, working as a member of VCE Theatre Studies monologue examination development panels, and as a VCE Drama and Theatre Playlist advisory panel member. These experiences not only informs my deep understanding of curriculum intent, assessment standards and contemporary classroom practice, but enables me to offer expert guidance advising theatre companies, authors and publishers on VCE Text and Playlist submissions to the VCAA.
I also provide direction to theatre makers aiming to engage school audiences, offering insight into curriculum alignment across P–12 and pathways for access and relevance. Alongside this, I have worked closely with Drama Victoria in multiple capacities, including delivering workshops across regional Victoria as part of the Blended Arts Program and serving as their inaugural Arts and Education Partnership Manager, where I established new opportunities for collaboration between educators and the arts industry. At the heart of all this work is my determination to offer mutually beneficial, clear, generous and informed conversations, opportunities and pathways between the arts and education sectors.
Here are some kind people saying lovely things about my cross-sector work:
“Arts Centre Melbourne engaged Claire to work with us on developing a strong Drama and Theatre studies Playlist application – their deep knowledge and ‘big picture’ thinking was key to creating a thorough and compelling application that clearly spoke to outcomes, and addressed where we could support potential knowledge gaps for students.”- Zoe Rinkel Former Senior Producer, Creative Learning | Arts Centre Melbourne
“Claire’s work an education consultant for Outer Urban Projects (OUP) saw them working with our producing team to place our performing arts works and texts within the Victorian and national secondary curriculums. Claire is an exciting addition to OUP as we widen our young audience reach and introduce students to our talented artists and artistic works developed in Melbourne’s outer northern suburbs.” - Kate Gillick, Executive Producer & Co-CEO | Outer Urban Projects
“Claire occupies that middle space between the education and arts sectors, and works to bridge the gap between the two in a way that is creative, inclusive, playful, and also practical. If you want an advisor, a specialist, a coach, a grant-writer, an edu-pack, or a creative solution to a problem you can't even articulate, Claire is a popular choice for a reason.”- Lorin Clarke, Writer, Director.
